Back On Road — Destination: "Queen City"
It’s Spring Break and a quick change of scenery was definitely needed. My sister and I decided that we wanted to get away and hit a place that wouldn’t break the bank so to say. The entire trip was budget friendly if I must say so myself. The commute from Atlanta was only about 3 and a half hours. We left Atlanta around 11 am and arrived to our hotel around 3pm. Guess what? Shamari and Ronnie Devoe actually stayed at the same hotel we were in. My sister hit me with the quick “Shamari and Ronnie Devoe” in front of me text lol. But anyways, we got settled in and hit the ground running, ready to explore.
Did You Know:
Charlotte is nicknamed “The Queen City”. The community, once called Charlottetowne, was named in honor of the British queen, "Charlotte Sophia." The county name, Mecklenburg, also was influenced by her. It is the name of the the region in Germany where Queen Charlotte was born. You may see the Crown logo used on flags, on street signs, on the sides of City vehicles and on the signage for public and government buildings.
Charlotte is home to the corporate headquarters of Bank of America and the east coast operations of Wells Fargo. This makes it the second largest banking center in the United States. — Mostly everything had a Bank of America reference. There is also a Bank of America Stadium located in Uptown, Charlotte.
The Charlotte metropolitan area is the largest in the United States that doesn’t have a zoo.
TIPS:
Use eventbrite, groupon, and Facebook to search all of the local events that will be going on for the weekend.
We stayed off of Westpark Dr. which is only about 15 minutes from Uptown and Downtown. It was pretty much under 20 minutes to every place we wanted to visit. So I recommend staying closer to those areas.
Places to Visit:
NoDa District: This reminds me of Little Five Points in Atlanta. It gives off the Urban artistry vibes, with plenty of diverse food options.
Jack Beagles — a NO for me but if you enjoy a dog friendly environment this is the place for you. They are known for their mac-n-cheese but yeahhhh it’s a no for me. Their waffle fries were BOMB and vegan options seem to be the BEST option on the menu.
Explicit Bar and Bistro — Good drinks, good music and an open buffet brunch for only $20 on Sunday’s.
Sage— Another restaurant and lounge
Sports One — A sports bar for the older crowd.
Lucky’s Bar and Arcade — What a way to bring out my inner child. They had a special on groupon ($14 for cover, 2 drinks and 20 tokens) Can’t beat that. But definitely a good places to go and have some fun.
EpiCentre — The center of entertainment and nightlife in Charlotte. It has 3 or 4 floors of food, bar and movie options.
Tin Roof — Green Room is located inside of the Epic Center. The Green Room is located inside of the Tin Roof. Green Room has GREAT affordable drinks but the music is TRASH.
Toppers — Late night pizza delivery option. The pizza is just like Pizza Hut. It was good and affordable
Carowinds — Amusement Park
